PRESS RELEASE

NEW QUEENSLAND RECORDING LABEL ESTABLISHED

Dorian Music has added a new Recording Division to its belt. After more than twenty years of retailing Classical Sheet Music to customers throughout Australia and overseas, the firm has expanded into the recording industry, with the imminent release of its first commercial CD due in February/March 2008. (More information following.)

The Recording Division will be managed by Peter Negerevich, son of Alex Negerevich, present director of Dorian Music (Australia).

Peter says:

“We are anxious to further develop mainstream classical music production in this country, releasing works particularly by local composers and utilizing Australian artists to perform new works. This will be the first Queensland label devoted exclusively to classical music. We want Australians to be able to access their own music more easily and at the same time create a home-based product to further combat the decline of classical music sales”.

Dorian Music currently operates entirely as a mail-order music business, utilizing the internet to promote its classical catalogue of sheet music. Customers can now order on the firm’s website: www.dorianmusic.com.au

Dorian Music moved to Stanthorpe, Queensland nine years ago from its previous Brisbane premises, basing its operation in the quiet hills of the Granite Belt.

Manager, Alex Negerevich, explains the reasoning behind Dorian Music’s move:

“We undertook a conscious decision to de-centralize our business. Even when we operated in the city many customer’s from regional areas used our services to facilitate their musical needs. After nine years living in the country we understand the problems people are faced with in isolated areas and have tried to cater to their needs. Many obstacles confront Australian regional businesses and government services rarely are motivated to help make life easier. We pay more for our services and equipment because of the distances involved. We also have to wait longer for supplies, often of inferior quality in the country, because preference is given to populated urban areas. Yet the lifestyle is a bonus factor with less pollution, less traffic and a healthier lifestyle. Beethoven’s Pastorale Symphony has real meaning for me!”

Peter has produced the firm’s first CD which will be released shortly. This includes chamber works composed by his father, which have been recently published by Dorian Music.

All the recording took place at the University of Southern Queensland’s Arts Theatre (Toowoomba) last December and will feature Alex Negerevich’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin & Piano, Sonatina for Clarinet & Piano, After the Storm for Clarinet & Piano, Solo Violin Etudes and Violin Concerto. Artists involved include Andrew & Wendy Lorenz, Martin Crook and Marilyn Meier-Kapavale.
